The PortAventura theme park in Salou is the first and only holiday destination in Europe to host performances by the popular Canadian company Cirque du Soleil. Cirque du Soleil was born in 1984 in Canada’s Quebec and already boasts multiple awards such as a Bambi, a Rose d’ Or, two Drama Desk, three Gemini, four Primetime Emmy, a star on Hollywood’s Fame Walk and another one in Canada.

This collaboration was born in 2015 with the great show of the company Kooza, as well as Amaluna, in their first tour of Europe. Two years later, in 2017, Cirque du Soleil returned to Salou to surprise young and old with the Varekai show.

Varekai, the last show we could enjoy, has a title that means “anywhere” and is an “acrobatic tribute to the nomadic spirit”. Basically, the plot is set in the Greek myth of Icarus, whose wings melt after flying too close to the sun. In Varekai, instead of drowning in the sea, Icarus lands in a forest where creatures teach him to fly again.

The show that will be presented next year is a mystery: although we don’t yet know how they will surprise us in 2018, the company is advancing that very soon we will be able to continue enjoying the company that has revolutionized the show business.
