Platja d’Aro is one of the most valued and visited destinations on the Costa Brava. Located in the Baix Empordà region, it has a seafront of more than two kilometres with enviable beaches and coves, and it has a wide range of shops, accommodation, leisure and restaurants, everything you need for an unforgettable family holiday with friends or with your couple. In the following lines, we explain everything you can do in Playa de Aro in one weekend.

Walk the Roads of Ronda

The roads of Ronda are trails that connect the entire coastline of the Costa Brava and the different towns in the region. Through these trails, you can get to know the different bays of the Costa Brava and enjoy the beautiful views they offer. In the vicinity of Platja d’Aro, we find two sections. The first is the section from S’Agaró to Platja d’Aro of 6.5 km, and the second from Platja d’Aro to Sant Antoni de Calonge of 8.5 km.

These roads date back centuries when the settlers decided to make patrols to guard the coasts and protect themselves from pirates. Then, in the 19th and 20th centuries, during the civil war, these roads were used by the Civil Guard to control illegal activities.

Enjoy its beaches and coves

One of the main attractions of Platja d’Aro are its beautiful beaches and coves, so characteristic of the Costa Brava and the Mediterranean Sea. For many years Platja d’Aro has been awarded the blue flag, which means that its waters are completely clean.

The main beach is La Platja Gran (or Platja Llarga), where in addition to sunbathing and bathing, you can take a walk along the promenade and practice different sports such as driving jet skis, paddle surfing, kayaking, beach soccer or volleyball. There is also the possibility of renting a private boat with a skipper, which allows you to explore the most beautiful sea caves in the area. Likewise, if you are looking for something quieter, in the neighbouring towns there are also several coves such as La Cala Rovira, La Cala del Pi, Cala Sa Cova and Cala Belladona.

Go shopping on Avinguda S’Agaró

One of the peculiarities of Platja d’Aro is that it is one of the few coastal towns in which main street is not the promenade. The one of Platja d’Aro is located 3 blocks perpendicular to it and is where we can find most of the shops, bars, restaurants and entertainment venues, ideal for spending the afternoon after a long day at the beach.

Take a walk along the promenade and have a paella overlooking the sea

Another recommended plan is to take a walk along the Platja d’Aro promenade and see one of its beautiful sunsets while eating an exquisite paella or any other delicious dish in one of the restaurants.

Visit the historic complex of Castell d’Aro

One of the main things to do in Platja d’Aro is to walk through the old town of Castell d’Aro, which has been declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest. Over the years, the area has hardly been altered and restorations have been rare. Its architecture dates back to the 16th to 18th centuries, so it has a medieval look with houses and cobbled streets, highly recommended for lovers of medieval architecture.

Have fun in one of its theme or adventure parks

In case you want to spend a different day or afternoon, you can visit the PP’s Park (theme park) one of the most mythical places in Platja d’Aro where you will find attractions, fair booths, a restaurant area and a churrería; We also recommend the Aquadiver water park, which offers a wide selection of slides, swimming pools…; and of course, the Costa Brava Parc Aventura where there are zip lines, suspension bridges, jumps into the void, climbing walls, stairs, swings and many other activities to enjoy with family and friends.

Relax at MedPlaya Hotel Monterrey

All these activities are worth a good rest at the end of the day, and this is offered by MedPlaya Hotel Monterrey. Located in a quiet residential area just 75 meters from the main beach of Platja d’Aro, it offers you a relaxed atmosphere and a familiar treatment, with all the services you may need: outdoor pool with bar service, hammocks and umbrella; animation program, billiards, ping-pong, free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, buffet-style dining room, air conditioning, parking, restaurant and cafeteria, and all the anti-covid security measures necessary to make you feel comfortable and calm.
