Horse racing is an equestrian sport with a long history. Archaeological records indicate that horse racing occurred in ancient Babylon, Syria, and Egypt. Both chariot and mounted horse racing were events in the ancient Greek Olympics by 648 BC. In the Roman Empire, chariot and mounted horse racing were major industries.

The Hipodromo Mijas in Costa del Sol is situated in the urbanization of “El CHAPARRAL”, The Hipódromo is located only 30 km from Málaga Airport and it is reachable by public transport. The Racecourse is also understood as an area of leisure and entertainment for all audiences, where additional activities are held to the races, some of which were common as guided tours of the facilities, flamenco dance after each race, live music, etc.

At the racecourse it is possible to enjoy of the race meetings during the mornings in winter and in the nights during the summer. Then, the enclosure offers to the visitors another leisure activities like flamenco show after each race, guide visit, children play centre, exhibitions, etc…Currently the racecourse has a great square of 15.000 m2 with direct view to the tracks and a seating capacity for  2.500 viewers.
