At MedPlaya we have always been aware of the importance of having a sustainability plan in order not to unnecessarily compromise the planet’s resources and the possibilities of future generations.

The Association of British Travel Agents created Travelife in 2007, a system to measure the social and environmental impacts of companies related to the tourism world. Travelife allows hotels to control their state of sustainability, as well as subjecting the hotel to an external audit through which a Bronze, Silver or Gold seal can be obtained.

MedPlaya hotels are currently renewing their Travelife certifications, which they already hold under the Gold label. The participating hotels are Hotel Flamingo Oasis, Hotel Esmeraldas, Hotel Santa Monica, Hotel Calypso, Hotel Riviera, Hotel Pez Espada, Hotel Bali, Hotel Rio Park, Hotel Riudor and Hotel Regente.

The Travelife Management system supports the effective integration of sustainability in tourism companies. The system is standardized with regulations such as EMAS Environmental Management Systems, ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, and ISO 26000 Corporate Social Responsibility standards. The main aspects that Travelife values are the following:

  • Energy efficiency and conservation
  • Waste management and water resources
  • Greenhouse gas emissions
  • Labour practices and labour rights
  • Human rights
  • Relations with the local community
  • Ecosystem conservation
  • Cultural impacts
  • Health and safety
  • Fair trade practices
  • Consumer protection
