Summer brings good weather, peace and quiet, and lots of outdoor parties! If you visit Barcelona in August you can’t miss one of the most important neighbourhood festivals in the Catalan capital.

As every year, during the week of 15th August, the Gràcia district of Barcelona hosts one of the most eagerly awaited events of the season for all Barcelona residents. For seven days, Gràcia fills its streets with colour, music and culture – a perfect opportunity to learn about Catalan traditions for free!

The decoration of the streets of Gracia is always the strong point of the party and it is a pleasure to go around it with the unknown of what you will find. Every year an award is given for the street, the place or the best decorated balcony. This contest is taken very seriously. All the residents of a street work together for months to make Gràcia a magical world at the opening of the festival. Every year each street decides a new theme, keeping it secret until the last moment.

If you are looking for pure folklore, you are in the right place and every day you can see live castellers, capsgrossos, gegants, popular dances and… What would a Catalan festival be without the corresponding correfoc? If you are brave, you can jump between the sparks or before the Dragon of Gràcia. Above all remember to go and go well protected with cotton clothes and straw hats or handkerchiefs.

Live music is another characteristic element of this holiday season. We recommend that you keep in mind the program. Remember that they are all free!
