The history of Valentine’s Day dates back to the reign of Claudius II, Emperor of Rome. It was him who forbade marriage issuing a decree based on his conviction that married men were bad soldiers and that in case of war could not be separated from their families.

Valentine's DayValentine was a bishop during the period of oppression. He thought that the issued decree were unworthy and was convinced that the people should be free to marry, so he asked the young couples to visit him.So they did and the Valentine secretly married them.

But there came a time when Valentine was arrested and sentenced to execution. Valentine died on February 14 of the year 270 AD. While in jail, awaiting his execution, Valentine fell in love with the blind daughter of the jailer, called Asterius. During the time he was imprisoned, the girl regained her sight. Valentine sent a farewell note, signing it ‘from your Valentine’. Even today, this message remains the motto of the celebrations of Valentine’s Day.
